Nicole Lissenden is an art director, designer, illustrator and letterpress printer based in Asheville, NC.
When I was 4, I went through airport security with a tiny purse that contained tape, paper and scissors. TSA took my scissors and I didn’t know how I was going to make it through the whole flight without them.
I grew up, majored in painting, got into graphic design after college, and apprenticed in a letterpress shop. I bought my first press, a 1918 chandler & price, and later a 1972 heidelberg windmill. After running a printing and design business called Mink Letterpress for 8 years, I started working for East Fork, where I realized that creative collaboration is crucial for the development of my work and also for my mental health. In the last 7 years I’ve worked there, I’ve honed my skills in art direction, product development, styling and design. I get to draw with crayons, style pots in the woods and dream up ideas for color stories and product campaigns.
Life is busy with work and two kids, but sometimes you might still find me drawing for pleasure, crafting giant paper flowers, or riding shotgun on a road trip with a glue gun plugged into the cigarette lighter. I still carry scissors in my bag every day.
